Ara : Bhojpur SP Vinay Tiwari, taking action on the inquiry report of Piro DSP, on September 13, 2021, suspended Station House Officer (SHO), Piro police officer (PS), Ashok Kumar Chaudhary, Officer on Duty (OD), and three lady constables in connection with death of a middleage woman under myeterious circumstances while under police custody.
Bhojpur police had taken Shobha Devi, 46, wife of Munnu Prasad alias Munnu Kahar of Mothi village under Piro police station, and her son under custody on September 8, 2021, night, to quiz them in connection with murder of a Deshi Chikitsak (country doctor) and kept her at the quarter of a lady constable on the campus of Piro police station and quizzed her for four days and deputed three lady constables: Naina, Priyanka and Khushbu, for her security.
The police did not follow any rule in this regard. Neither an FIR was lodged against her nor any complaint was pending against her. Besides, as per the provision of the Habeas Corpus, police has to produce a suspect or a miscreant in the court within 24 hours of her/his arrest butthey did not prod
uce Shobha Devi before the court and confined her to the police station for four days where she died under mysterious circumstances though the police claimed that she committed suicide. Her family members alleged that police thrashed Shobha Devi to death and demanded dismissal of the SHO.
Bhojpur SP Vinay Tiwari said that police had arrested Shobha Devi of Mothi village along with her son and a named accused Virendra Ram of Rajeya village in connection with murder of a deshi chikitsak Mantosh Kumar Arya on September 8, 2021. Police had also arrested Sanjay Kumar, Arbind Kumar, and Neeraj Kumar, cousin brothers of Mantosh Kumar Arya, from their house at Mothi village on September 9, 2021 on suspicion.
The SP further said that he had directed Piro DSP Ashok Kumar Azad to inquire into the matter and the SHO, OD, and three lady constables, Naina, Priyanka and Khushbu were suspended with immediate effect on the basis of the inquiry report of the DSP. The SP stated that a four- member medical team, constituted by Civil Surgeon Dr L P Jha, performed the post-mortem under the supervision of a magistrate and the whole exercise was videographed.
