Patna : India were 445/ in 144 overs at tea on Day 4 in their second innings in 4th test against England at Kennington Oval, London, UK, on September 5, 2021, night, with fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah unbeaten on 19 run in 26 balls hitting 3 fours and fellow fast bowler Umesh Yadav batting on 13 runs in 15 balls with 1 six. India, who had scored 191 runs in their first innings, lead by 346 runs.  England had scored 291 runs in their first innings.

Resuming at their overnight score of 270/3, India lost their 4th wicket that of spinner Ravindra Jadeja at 296. Jadeja fell to fast bowler Chris Woakes for 17. Ajinkya Rahane also fell to Wokaes for zero at the same score making it 296/5. Captain Virat Kohli fell to spinner Moeen Ali for 44 in 96 balls with 7 fours and it was 312/6.

But Risbhabh Pant (wk) and all-rounder Shardul Thakur steadied the innings adding 100 runs for the 7th wicket. Thakur fell to England captain Joe Root for 60 in 72 balls with 7 fours and 1 six, his second fifty in this test,  and it was 412/7. Shardul Thakur had scored 57 runs in first innings. Pant fell to Moeen Ali for 50 in 106 balls with 4 fours.
