Patna : England defeated India by an innings and 76 runs in the 3rd test at Headingley, Leeds, UK, on Day 4 on August 28, 2021, to level the five-match series 1-1. Fast medium bowler Ollie Robinson, who took 2/16 in India’s  first innings and 5/65 in second innings, was named Player Of The Match. England captain Joe Root has won 27 tests as captain in 55 tests.

Resuming at their overnight score of 215/2, India who had scored 78 runs in first innings, were all out for just 278 runs in 99.3 overs in the first session of play on Day 4. Pujara fell to Robinson for 91 without adding to his overnight score of 91 making it 215/3. Captain Virat Kohli also fell to Robinson for 55 runs making it 237/4. Ajinkya Rahane fell to James Anderson for 10 runs and it was 239/5. Rishabh Pant (wk) fell to Robinson for 1 run and it was 239/6. Fast bowler Mohd Shami fell to spinner Moeen Ali for 6 making it 254/7. fast bowler Ishant Sharma also fell to Robinson and it was 257/8.  England had scored 432 runs in first innings.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja fell to Craig Overton for 30 runs in 25 balls hitting 5 fours and 1 six making it 278/9. Mohd Siraj also fell to Overton, who took 3/47 in 18.3 overs.
