Patna : World No 76 Jil Teichmann, 24, Switzerland, World No 4 Karolina Pliskova, 29, Czech Republic; and World No 22 Angelique Kerber, 33, Germany, have reached the semi-finals of WTA Western & Southern Open at Cincinati, Ohio, USA.

Teichmann, who had stunned World No Naomi Osaka, 23, Japan, in Round of 16, brushed aside compatriot and Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Belinda Bencic, 24, in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in quarter-final winning 3 break points and 3 games in a row during the match on August 21, 2021, early morning. Teichmann fired 4 Aces in the match to 3 by World No 12 Bencic. Teichmann, in all, won 66 points in the match to 41 by Bencic.

Fifth seed Karolina Pliskova got a walk over as her quarter-final opponent & World No 29 Paula Badosa, 23, Spain,  retired in second set trailing 5-7, 0-2 on August 21, 2021, early morning. Karolina will face Teichmann in semi-final on August 21, 2021, late night.

Kerber, the winner of three Grand Slam singles titles including Wimbledon title in 2018, also had a walkover as her QF opponent 11th seed Petra Kvitova, 31, Czech Republic, retired in second set trailing 4-6, 3-3. Kvitova is a two time former Wimbledon Champion. Kerber will face World No 1 Ashleigh Barty, 25, Australia, in semi-final on August 21, 2021, at 8.30 pm.
