Patna : India were struggling at 125/4 in 46.4 overs at stumps on Day 2 in their first innings in 1st Test against England at Trent BRidge, Nottingham, UK, on August 5, 2021, night, with captain Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and opener Rohit Sharma back to pavilion as fast medium bowler James Anderson took 2/15 in 13.4 overs. The play was stopped after 46.4 overs due to bad light combined with rain. India trail by 58 runs.

Opener Lokesh Rahul was unbeaten on 57 in 151 balls with 9 fours while Rishabh pant was 7 not out at stumps. Resuming at their overnight score of 21/0, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Lokesh Rahul gave their team a solid foundation adding 97 runs for the first wicket negotiating James Andersona and fellow medium fast bowler Ollie Robinson well.

Rohit  fell to Robinson for 36 in 107 balls with 6 fours making it 97/1 in 37.3 overs and thereafter India collapsed to be 125/4. Pujara fell to Anderson for 4 making it 104/2. On the next ball, Captain Kohli fell to Anderson for zero on the first ball he faced and it was 104/3 in 40.3 overs. Rahane was run out for 5 while trying to take a non-existent single and it was 112/4 in 43.2 overs.

England were all out for just 183 on Day 1 as Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets, Mohammad Shami took 3 wickets, and Shardul Thakur took 2 wickets.
