Patna : India defeated four-time Gold Medallist Germany 5-4 at Oi Hockey Stadium, to clinch Bronze Medal in men’s Hockey at Tokyo Olympics 2020 on August 5, 2021. India has won an Olympic medal in men’s Hockey after a gap of 41 years. Germany had last won Gold Medal at 2012 London Olympics.
Midfielder Simranjeet Singh, 24,a historic scored two goals ( 17th and 34 minute)while midfielder Hardik Singh, 22, defender Harmanpreet Singh, 25, and defender ( fullback) Rupinder Pal Singh, 30, scored one goal each in a thriller. India captain Manpreet Singh was in tears after the team defeated Germany to win Bronze medal. Germany got a penalty corner to score the equaliser but goalkeeper Sreejesh Parattu Raveendran, 33, a former captain, saved it.

India had won Gold Medal in men’s hockey in 1980 at Moscow Olympics. Overall, India has won 8 Gold, 1 Silver, and 3 Bronze Medals in men’s Hockey. Incidentally, Simranjeet Singh was a late inclusion in the men’s hockey team for Tokyo Olympics.
