Patna : England were all out for 183 in 65.4 overs in their first innings in 1st test against India at trent Bridge, Nottingham, UK, on August 4, 2021, night, as Jasprit Bumrah took 4/46 in 20.4 overs while Mohammad Shami took 3/28 in 17 overs. Shardul Thakur took 2/41 in 13 overs and Mohammad Siraj took 1/48 in 12 overs. For England, captain Joe Root scored 64 runs in 108 balls with 11 fours while Jonny Bairstow scored 29 in 71 balls hitting 4 fours. Zak Crawley scored 27 runs in 68 balls hitting 4 fours while all-rounder Sam Curran remained unbeaten on 27 runs in 37 balls hitting 4 fours and 1 six.

Opting to bat winning the toss, England had a terrible start as they lost the wicket of opener Rory Burns with no run on the board. Burns fell lbw to Jasprit Bumrah. Zak Crawley fell to Mohad Siraj for 27 and it was 42/2. Opener Dominic Sibley fell to Shami for 18 making it 66/3. Jonny Bairstow fell to Shami for 29 making it 138/4. Bairstow and captain Joe Root added 72 runs for the 4th wicket.

Daniel Lawrence also fell to Shami for zero and it was 138/5. Jos Buttler (wk) fell to Bumrah for zero making it 145/6. Root fell to Shardul Thakur for 64 making it 155/7.  All-rounder Ollie Robinson also fell to Thakur for zero and it was 155/8. fast bowler Stuard Broad fell to Bumrah for 4 making it 160/9. James Anderson fell to Bumrah for 1.
