Patna : India defeated Sri Lanka (SL) by 7 wickets in 1st ODI at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka, on July 18, 2021, night, to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with captain Shikhar Dhawan playing a sedate unbeaten knock of 86 in 95 balls with 6 fours and 1 six and Ishan Kishan (wk) scoring 59 in 42 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes.
Opener Prithwi Shaw scored an explosive 43 in 24 balls hitting 9 fours. Shaw was named Player Of The Match. Chasing a target of 263 runs, India scored 263/3 in just 36.4 overs. SL had won the toss and opted to bat.
India were off to a great start with opener Dhawan and Shaw adding 58 runs for the first wicket in just 5.3 overs. Shaw fell to Dhananjaya de Silva. Dhawan and Ishan Kishan then added 85 runs for the 2 wicket. Dhawan and Mansh Pandey added 72 runs for third wicket. Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 31 in 20 balls with 5 fours. Dhawan and Suryakumar added 48 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 4th wicket.
