Patna : England defeated Pakistan by 3 wickets in a thriller in 3rd ODI at Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK, on July 13, 2021, late night, with James Vince scoring 102 in 95 balls hitting 11 fours and all-rounder Lewis Gregory scoring 77 in 69 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes,to sweep the three-match series 3-0. England had won the toss and opted to bowl.
James Vince was declared Player Of The Match while fast bowler Saqib Mahmood was declared Player Of The Series. England won the series 3-0 with almost a new team missing several regular ODI players. England captain Ben Stokes thanked the selectors for encouraging new players to play fearless cricket. Pakistan dropped three catches in the 3rd ODI.
Chasing a target of 332 runs, England scored 332/7 in 48 hours despite losing their first wicket with only 19 runs on board. But opener Philip Salt and Zak Crawley steadied the innings with quickfire innings hitting the Pakistan fast bowler all over. Dawid Malan fell to medium fast bowler Hasan Ali for zero. Salt fell to fast bowler Haris Rauf for 37 in 22 balls hitting 7 fours and it was 53/2. Zak Crawley also fell to Rauf for 39 in 34 balls hitting 7 fours and it was 104/3. Captain Ben Stokes fell to leg spinner Shadab Khan for 32 in 28 balls hitting 4 fours and 1 six making it 151/4 after 30 overs. John Simpson (wk) also fell to Shadab Khan for 3 and it was 165/5.
James Vince and Lewis Gregory then added 129 runs for the 6th wicket. Vine fell to fast bowler Rauf for 102 runs and it was 294/6. Gregory also fell to Rauf for 77 making it 303/7. Craig Overton remained unbeaten on 18 in 15 balls with 1 four while fast bowler Brydon Carse remained 12not out in 11 balls hitting 1 four. For Pakistan, Rauf took 4/65 while Shadab Khan took 2/61. Hasan Ali took 1/69.
Earlier batting first, Pakistan had scored a decent 331/9 in 50 overs with captain Bababr Azam scoring 158 runs in 139 balls with 14 fours and 4 sixes while opener Imam-ul-Haq scored 56 runs. Mohd Rizwan (wk) scored 74 runs in 58 balls with 8 fours.
