Motihari : In two separate incident, four children including two girls, all below ten years, drowned in swollen Burhi Gandak river near Chiljapati and Sakul Pakad villages under Sugauli police station (PS) in East Champaran District in North Bihar in last 24 hours. All the bodies were recovered by the locals and handed over to the guardians of the deceased.
The water of river Burhi Gandak has crossed danger level and the flood water has entered seven panchayats under Sugauli Block and
around 15,000 affected people have taken shelter at safer places including on NH 28A . The hilly rivers like Sarisawa, Tilawe, Bangari,
Dudhaura Tier, and Jan are in spate.
The The flood water has entered Sugauli town and flowing over NH28A between Motihari and Raxaul at seven places . The railway has cancelled at least six special trains since July 4, 2021, night as the water of Burhi Gandak touched rail bridge girder at Bridge No. 248 between Sugauli and Majhauliya railway stations under East Central Railways (ECR).
DM, East Champaran, Shirshat Kapil Ashok, said that CM Nitish Kumar had conducted aerial survey of East Champaran District on June 6, 2021. The flood has affected atahi, Madhuban, Ghorasahan, Banjariya Chiraiya, Dhaka, Sugauli, Kesariya, and Sangrampur blocks in the district.
DM Ashok said country boats have bee pressed into service in flood affected areas and 14 community kitchens are being run in these areas by the district administration. The CM, after the aerial survey, was briefed about the flood situation by the DM.
