Patna : South Africa (SA) defeated West Indies (WI) by 25 runs in the 5th T20I at National Cricket Stadium, St George’s, Grenada, on July 3, 2021, late night, to win the five-match series 3-2. SA opener Aiden Markram was declared Player Of The Match while spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was declared Player Of The Series. SA had won the two-match test series 2-0.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, SA scored 168/4 in 20 overs with opener Quinton de Kock scoring 60 in 42 balls hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes while Aiden Markram scored 70 in 48 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Quinton de Kock and Markram added 128 runs for the 2nd wicket. David Miller remained unbeaten on 18 in 16 balls with 1 four.
SA had a terrible start losing their first wicket that of opener Temba Bavuma (captain) on the third ball of the first over. Captain Bavuma fell to fast bowler Fidel Edwards for zero. Kock also fell to Edwards for 60 making it 128/2. Markram fell to fast medium bowler Obed McCoy and it was 144/3. Van der Dussen fell to D J Bravo for 1 making it 149/4.
In reply, WI could score only 143/9 in 20 overs with opener Evin Lewis scoring 52 in 34 balls hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes and Shimron Hetmyer scoring 33 in 31 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes. Captain Kieron Pollard scored 13 runs in 15 balls hitting 1 six. For SA, fast bowler Lungi Ngidi took 3/32 while fellow fast bowler Kagiso Rabada took 2/24. Medium fast bowler Wiaan Mulder took 2/31 while Shamsi took 1/11 in 4 overs.
