Patna : Second seed Daniil Medvedev, 25, Russia, defeated World No 45 Jan-lennard Struff, 31, Germany, in four sets to enter the 2nd round of Wimbledon Championships at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquent Club, London, UK, on June 29, 2021.
Medvedev beat Struff 6-4, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 in Wimbledon first round on Court No 1. Medvedev hammered 15 Aces in the match to 8 by the German. The Russian won 4 break points to 1 by Struff. Medvedev won 5 games in a row during the match to 3 by the German. Medvedev, in all, won 23 games during the match to 17 by Struff.
Eight-time former Wimbledon Chamhpion Roger Federer, 39, Switzerland, the 6th seed, entered the 2nd round after his first round opponent World No 41 Adrian Mannarino, 32, Australia, retired in the 5th set with the two players having won two sets each. Federer, the winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles, won the first set 6-4 but Mannarino won the second and third set 7-6 and 6-3. Federer won the 4th set 6-2.
Fourth seed Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, beat World No 124 Tallon Griekspoor, 24, Netherlands, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 on Court No 1 to enter the 2nd round. Zverev hammered 20 Aces in the match to 3 by qualifier Griekspoor. Both the players committed 4 double faults each. Zverev won 7 break points to 2 by the Dutch. Zverev won 4 games in arow during the match to 2 by the Dutch.
World No 70 Pablo Andujar, 35, Spain, edged past World No 101 Pierre-Hugues Herbert, 30, France, in a five-set marathon 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 5-7, 8-6 to reach the 2nd round. Herbert though hammered 28 Aces in the match to just 1 by Andujar. But, the Frenchman also committed 22 double faults to 7 by the Spaniard. Herbert won 9 break points during the match to 8 by Andujar. Herbert also won 5 games in a row durint the match to 4 by the Spaniard. Herbert, in all, won 230 points during the match to 220 by Andujar. Both the players won 31 games each during the match.
