Chas (Jharkhand) : DPS Chas in Bokaro District in Jharkhand, organised a Yoga Workshop cum Demonstration for the students of classes II to XII on June 22, 2021, through virtual platform. Yoga instructor  Asha Bhattacharya,  who has won Gold Medal at international level in yoga, took a session which was attended by dozens of teachers and hundreds of students of the school.

The session began with the chanting of Yoga Mantra followed by the warming up and stretching exercises, series of asanas like Padmasanas, Sukhasan, Tadasana, BhujangAsana, Shavasana and Vrikshasana. Exercises for relieving stress, reducing joint pain, and enhancing the flexibility of the body were also done for the benefit of the students and teachers.

“A few minutes of Yoga during the day can be a positive way to get rid of stress. Yoga postures, Pranayama and meditation are effective techniques to release stress. So, creating awareness on the importance of yoga for humanity, has been acknowledged as India’s gift to the world for a healthy living,” said, Bhattacharya. DPS Chas has incorporated yoga as a compulsory activity in school curriculum which is a welcome step,” she said.

On this occasion, a video on a prayer to Almighty in different languages was prepared by the students and shown to all emphasising the power of music connecting people during the lockdown.

After the workshop, an online quiz competition was held for the students of Classes II to XII. A wide range of questions related to Yoga and its history were asked. It was a wonderful learning experience for all the students.

In her message from Delhi, Dr Hemlata S Mohan, Chief Mentor DPS Chas, said, “Yoga –the ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice definitely brings a unison of the body and the consciousness of the surroundings and nature. She urged students and teachers to take the pledge on this day to make yoga an integral part of their life.”

Principal, DPS Chas, P Shailaja Jayakumar, said, “Yoga is not about exercise but to discover the sense of harmony with oneself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being.” She encouraged students to practice regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration. “Regular practice of yoga will surely help our students in remaining healthy physically, mentally and spiritually,” she added.
