Patna : Barbora Krejcikova, 25, Czech Republic, who started playing tennis as 6 year old child and was later coached and mentored by 1998 Wimbledon Champion late Jana Novotna, also of Czech Republic,  on June 12, 2021, became the new women’s French Open Champion.

Krejcikova beat World No 32 & 31st seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 29, Russia, in a three-set contest 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in women’s singles final of French Open on court Philippe-Chatrier, Stade Roland Garros, Paris, France, on June 12, 2021, evening, to win her first Grand Slam singles title  and 2,000 Rankings Points. Krejcikova had lost in the 2nd round of Australian Open in 2021 but reached 4th round at French Open later in October 2020. She had reached singles final at a WTA event in march 2021 at Dubai.

Krejcikova won 6 break points during the match to 5 by Pavlyuchenkova.  She also won 6 games in a row in the match to 3 by the Russian. The Czech, in all, won 85 points during the match to 75 by the Russian.  Krejcikova also 5 double faults in the ,atch to kust 1 by Pavlyuchenkova, a three-time quarter-finalist ( 2017, 2019, 2020) at Australian Open and Wimbledin quarter-finalist in 2016. Both the players served 2 Aces each during the match. Pavlyuchenkova bagged 1,200 Rankings points as runner-up. The WTA Rankings of both the players will improve considerably after their brilliant run at the French Open 2021
