Patna : World No 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 22, Greece, battled past World No 6 Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, in a five-set marathon on June 11, 2021, to reach the men’s singles final at 2021 French Open, his first Grand Slam final. Tsitsipas beat Zverev 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3 in semi-final on court Philippe-Chatrier, Stade Roland Garros, Paris, France, on June 11, 2021. Tsitsipas now leads Zverev 6-2 Head to Head.
Fifth seed Tsitsipas won the first two sets comfortably but 6th seed Zverev roared back to win the third and fourth set taking the match to decider. The Greek won the fifth set easily though the German still played some brilliant shots. The German fired 11 Aces in the match to 8 the Greek. Tsitsipas won 5 break points during the match to 3 by the German. He also won 7 games ina row to 3 by Zverev.
Tsitsipas, in all, won 145 points during the match to 135 by Zverev. Tsitsipas had reached Australian Open SFs in 2019 & 2021. He has won 7 career titles. The Greek is the youngest men’s singles finalist at French Open Finalist since Rafael Nadal in 2008. The Greek had won Monte-carlo Masters title on April 18, 2021. Zverev had won Madrid Masters title on May 9, 2021.
