Patna : Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 22, Greece, upset 2nd seed Daniil Medvedev, 25, Russia, in a straight sets to reach the semi-final of French Open, an ATP Grand Slam tournament played on outdoor clay courts at Stade Roland Garros, Paris, France, on June 9, 2021, early morning. Tsitsipas will face World No 6 Alexander Zverev in semi-final on June 10, 2021. Tsitsipas had reached French Open semi-finals in 2020 too.

World No 5 Tsitsipas, who had won ATP Monte-Carlo Masters title on April 18, 2021, and reach the final of Barcelona Open the same month, defeated World No 2  Medvedev in a tough three-set contest 6-3, 7-6, 7-5 on court Philippe -Chatrier. The Gree k won 4 break points during the match to 2 by Medvedev.

Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Medvedev though fired 5 Aces in the match to 3 by the Greek. Tsitsipas’ winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 73 % & 77%) was much better than that Medmedev’s ( 60 % & 60 %). Tsitsipas, in all, won 118 points in the match to 91 by the Russian. Tsitsipas had also reached Australian Open semi-finals in 2019 & 2021. The Greek has won 7 career titles.
