Patna : World No 6 Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, World No 9 Matteo Berrettini, 25, Italy, and World No 46 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, 21, Spain, have reached the quarter-finals of French Open, an ATP Grand Slam tournament played on outdoor clay court at Stade Roland Garros, Paris, France.
Sixth seed Zverev drubbed World No 49 Kei Nishikori, 31, Japan, in straight sets 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 in 4th round on June 6 2021,late night, to reach French Open quarter-finals for the third time. Zverev won 8 break points during the match to 2 by the Japanese, the 2014 US Open finalist.
The German also won 7 games in a row during the match to 3 by a resurgent Nishikori. Zverev, the 2020 US Open finalist, won 95 points in the match to 59 points by the Japanese. Zverev, the winner of Madrid Masters title recently, fired 5 Aces in the match to none by Nishikori. Zverev will face Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina QF on June 8, 2021.
World No 9 Berrettini reached the French Open QF after his 4th round opponent & 8th seed Roger Federer, 39, Switzerland, the winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles, pulled out of the tournament due to injury recovery issues.
Fokina battled past World No 51 Federico Delbonis, 30, Argentina, in four-sets 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in 4th round on June 6, 2021, nightFokina won 7 break during the match to 5 by Delbonis. The Spaniard, in all, won 126 points during the match to 116 by Delbonis. He also won 5 games in a row in the match to 4 by the Argentine.
