Rs 1,200 cr deposited in banks, post-offices in Bhojpur after demonetisation

Ara: At least 10 lakh people did transaction in 210 banks branches and post- offices till November 30, 2016, and Rs. 1,200 crore has been deposited while Rs 300 crore was drawn in Bhojpur district after demonetisation November 8, 2016. An online transaction of Rs 40 crore was also made through swipe machines in the district. Altogether 515 swipe machines are working in Bhojpur district including 60 in rural areas. Eighty new swipe machines were installed by the banks after demonetisation.

Loan Divisional Manager (LDM), Punjab National Bank, Vijay Kumar said that as people draw only Rs 2,000 a day from the ATM that it leads to long nqueue in anfront of ATM counters. He said cash is now surplus and all ATMs are filled with tender notes and small denomination currency.

Meanwhile, a retired professor, Veer Kuer Singh University, Gulab Singh demanded extension of date for the exchange of old 500 and 1000 notes till March 31, 2017,. He said that demonetisation of high denomination currency and black money are two different things. Camps were organized on December 1, 2016, at every branch of the PNB to make the employees and customers aware of cashless banking. LDM, PNB, Vijay Kumar told them to link their accounts with adhar cards and start transaction through mobiles.
