Patna : Nine-time champion Rafael Nadal, 34, Spain, beat World No 18 Jannik Sinner, 19, Italy, in straight sets to reach the third round of Italian Open , an ATP Masters 1,000 clay court tournament, at Rome, Italy, on May 12, 2021, late night.

Second seed Nadal, who last won the Italian Open title in 2019 beating Novak Djokovic, 33, Serbia, in final, defeated Sinner 7-5, 6-4 in 2nd round. Nadal won 5 break points in the match – thrice in first set and twice in second set- to 3 by the Italian. Nadal won 4 games in a row to 3 by Sinner. The Spainiard, in all, won 75 points to 64 by the Italian.
