Patna :  World No 33 Daniel Evans, 30, UK, sent World No 1 & Top seed Novak Djokovic, 33, Serbia, packing out of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte Carlo, Monaco,  beating him in straight sets in men’s singles 3rd round round on April 15, 2021. Evans stunned two-time former champion (2013 & 2015) Djokovic 6-4, 7-5 in Round of 16 in 2hrs 7 minutes in a major upset in the tournament to enter the quarter-finals of an ATM Masters 1,000  tournament for the first time. It is the biggest win of Evans’ career.

Evans was down 0-3 in the second set but rallied back strongly to make it 5-5 and then broke Djokovic’s service in the 11th game to lead 6-5 and then held his own serve to win the set 7-5. Evans won 5 break points during the match to 3 by Djokovic. Both the players won 3 games each in a row during the match.  Evans, in all, won 84 points in the match to 76 by the Serbian World No 1. Djokovic, the winner of 18 Grand Slam singles titles,  served 3 Aces in the match to 1 by Evans. The Serbian committed 4 double faults during the match.
