Patna : World No 33 Daniel Evans, 30, UK, sent World No 1 & Top seed Novak Djokovic, 33, Serbia, packing out of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte Carlo, Monaco, beating him in straight sets in men’s singles 3rd round round on April 15, 2021. Evans stunned two-time former champion (2013 & 2015) Djokovic 6-4, 7-5 in Round of 16 in 2hrs 7 minutes in a major upset in the tournament to enter the quarter-finals of an ATM Masters 1,000 tournament for the first time. It is the biggest win of Evans’ career.
Evans was down 0-3 in the second set but rallied back strongly to make it 5-5 and then broke Djokovic’s service in the 11th game to lead 6-5 and then held his own serve to win the set 7-5.
