New Delhi : The spike in Covid-19 cases continues at an alarming rate in India with 81,466 new cases being recorded in last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,23,03,131 cases in the country at 8 am on April 2, 2021. India had recorded 72,330 Covid-19 cases on April 1, 2021. The silver lining is that a total of 50,356 Covid-19 patients were declared cured / discharged in last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,15,25,039 in the country on April 2, 2021. On April 1, a total of 40,382 Covid-19 patients were declared cured.

The Active cases (6,14,696) on April 2, 2021, accounted for 5% of the total Covid-19 cases (1,23,03,131) recorded so far in India, a massive increase of 30,641 cases in last 24 hours. India has tested 24,59,12,587 samples so far including 11,13,966 samples on April 1, 2021. Meanwhile, altogether 6,87,89,138 persons have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in India so far including 36,71,242 beneficiaries on April 1, 2021. The recovery rate (RR) of Covid-19 patients further dropped to 93.68% in India on April 2, 2021, from 93.89% on April 1, 2021, according to Union Health Ministry figure.

The Covid-19 toll surged to 1,63,396 in India on April 2, 2021, with 469 new deaths being recorded in the country in last 24 hours including 249 in Maharashtra, 58 in Punjab, 34 in Chhattisgarh, 19 inTamilnadu,  18 in Karnataka, 12 in Madhya Pradesh, 11 in Kerala, 9 in Haryana, 9 in Gujarat, 9 in Uttar Pradesh, 9 in Delhi, 5 in Telengana, 4 in Rajasthan, 3 in Andhra Pradesh, 2 in West Bengal, 2 in Bihar, and 1 in Jharkhand. India had recorded 459 new deaths on April 1, 2021.

The Covid-19 toll in India on April 2, 2021, was : Maharashtra (54,898), Tamilnadu (12,738), Karnataka (12,585), Delhi (11,036), Andhra Pradesh (7,220), Uttar Pradesh (8,820), West Bengal (10,331), Gujarat (4,528), Madhya Pradesh (3,998), Rajasthan (2,822), Punjab (6,926), Telengana (1,706), J&K (1,998), Haryana (3,164), Bihar (1,578), Odisha (1,921), Jharkhand (1,1114), Assam (1,107), Uttarakhand (1,719), Kerala (4,632), Chhattisgarh (4,204), Puducherry (683), Goa (831), Tripura (392), Chandigarh (380), Andaman & Nicobar (62), Himachal Pradesh (1,052), Ladakh (130), Manipur (374), Nagaland (92), Meghalaya (150), Arunachal Pradesh (56), Sikkim (135), Mizoram (11), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (2), and Lakshadweep (1).
