Patna : Australia were 274/5 in 87 overs in their first innings at stumps on Day 1 in the 4th test against India at The Gabba, Brisbane, Australia, on January 15, 2021, as Marnus Labuschange scored 108 in 204 balls with 9 fours, his 5th test century and first against India, while Matthew Wade scored 45 in 67 balls hitting 6 fours.

Captain Tim Paine was unbeaten on 38 in 62 balls with 5 fours and Cameron Green Green was batting on 28 in 70 balls with 3 fours at stumps on Day 1. Paine and Green have added 61 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 6th wicket negotiating the new ball comfortably.

The day clearly belonged to Australia against an inexperienced Indian bowling attack with medium fast bowler T Natarajan, 29, and off spinner  Washington Sundar, 21, making their debut, medium fast bowler Shardul Thakur,29,  playing his 2nd test, and Mohd Siraj, 26, playing his 3rd test. Natarajan though took 2/63 in 20 overs while Shardul Thajur, Washington Sundar, and Siraj took one wicket each.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Australia did not have a good start as opener David Warner fell to Siraj for 1 making it 4/1. Warner’s flop show continues. His opening partner Marcus Harris fell to Thakur for 5 making it 17/2. But, Labuschagne and Steven Smith steadied the innings adding 70 runs for the 3rd wicket. Smith fell to debutant Sundar for 36 in 77 balls with 5 fours and it was 87/3. Matthew Wade fell to Natarajan for 45 and it was 200/4. Wade and Labuschagne added 113 runs for the 4th wicket. Labuschagne also fell to Natarajan for 108 and it was 213/5.
