Patna : Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Super Over in the 35th match of IPL 2020 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, UAE, on October 18, 2020, evening, as the match was tied with both the teams scoring 163 each in their allotted 20 overs. It was KKR’s 5th win in 9 matches and they now have 10 points. For, SRH, it was their 6th defeat in 9 matches and they have only 6 points.
New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson was the architect of KKR’s victory taking 2 wickets in the Super Over. He bowled SRH captain David Warner and then Abdul Samad in three balls. Warner and Jonny Bairstow opened for SRH in Super Over. Samad scored 2 runs on second ball of the Super Over. He was bowled on the 3rd ball by Ferguson. Warner was bowled on the first ball by Ferguson.
KKR needed only three runs to win the match which they did in 4 balls. Captain Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik opened for KKR in Super Over. Morgan scored 1 run while 2 runs came via leg byes with Karthik batting. Lockie Ferguson was named Player Of The Match.
Ferguson, playing his first match this IPL, had earlier taken 3/15 when SRH were batting. SRH needed 18 runs in the last over to win the match but could score only 17 runs though Warner hit three fours on three consecutive balls and remained unbeaten on 47 in 33 balls with 5 fours. Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson opened the batting for SRH in this match. They added 57 runs for the 1st wicket. Bairstow scored 36 runs while Williamson made 29. SRH scored 163/6 in 20 overs. SRH had won the toss and opted to bowl.
Batting first, KKR scored 163/5 with openers Shubhman Gill and Rahul Tripathi scoring 36 and 23 runs respectively. Nitish Rana scored 29 while AndreRussel scored 9. Captain Eoin Morgan made 34 with 3 fours and 1 six. Dinesh Karthik remained unbeaten on 29 in 14 balls hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes.
