New Delhi : The exponential increase in the number COVID-19 patients being declared cured/discharged continues in India with a record 87,472 patients being declared cured during last 24 hours taking the tally to 41,12,551 in the country exceeding the number of active cases (10,17,754) by a massive margin of 30,94,797. The country, however, also recorded 96,424 new cases during  last 24 hours. India has so far recorded 52,14,677 COVID-19 cases of which 41,12,551 patients have been declared cured till date with the recovery rate being 78.86%.

The country has tested 6,15,72,343 COVID samples so far including 10,06,615 samples on September 17, 2020. On September 18, 2020, the number of active cases was  19.52 % of the total cases (52,14,677) reported in the country.

On the negative side, the COVID-19 death toll surged to 84,372 on September 18 with 1,174 new deaths being reported from different parts of the country including 468 from Maharashtra, 93 from Karnataka, 59 from Tamilnadu, 81 from UP, 60 from West Bengal, 72 from Andhra Pradesh, 54 from Punjab, 38 from Delhi, 14 from Gujarat, and 33 from MP. The Case Fatality Rate had dropped  to 1.62% in the country on September 18, 2020, according to Union Health Ministry figure.

The COVID-19 death toll break-up in India on September 18, 2020, is : Maharashtra (31,351), Tamilnadu (8,618), Karnataka (7,629), Delhi (4,877), Andhra Pradesh (5,177), Uttar Pradesh (4,771), West Bengal (4,183), Gujarat (3,270), Madhya Pradesh (1,877), Rajasthan (1,293),  Punjab (2,646), Telengana (1,016), J&K (951), Haryana (1,069), Bihar (855), Odisha (669), Jharkhand (590), Assam (528), Uttarakhand (460), Kerala (489),  Chhattisgarh (628), Puducherry (431), Goa (327), Tripura (228), Chandigarh (109),  Andaman & Nicobar (52), Himachal Pradesh (98), Ladakh (46), Manipur (51), Nagaland (15), Meghalaya (31), Arunachal Pradesh (13), Sikkim (22), and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (2 ).
