Patna : Second seed Dominic Thiem, 27, Austria, and 5th seed Alexander Zverev, 23, Germany, will clash in the US Open (tennis) Finals on September 14, 2020. Thiem defeated 3rd seed Daniil Medvedev, 24, Russia, in straight sets 6-2, 7-6, 7-6 in SFs while Zverev beat 20th seed Pablo Carreno Busta, 29, Spain, in a five set marathon 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 in SFs rallying back from two sets down. Both Thiem and Zverev have reached US Open Finals for the first time.

Thiem won four break points in his SFs match against Medvedev, the 2019 US Finalist. The Russian could win only 2 break points. Medvedev, however, hammered 12 Aces in the match to just 2 by Thiem. The Austrian, who had also reached Australian Open Finals this year, won 4 games in a row in the match to 3 by the Russian. Thiem’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 79% & 59%) was better than that of Medvedev’s ( 76% & 45%).

Zverev hammered 24 Aces in his semi-finals match against Busta, who could serve only 4 Aces. The German, who had reached Australian Open SFs this year, won 8 break points in the match to 7 by Busta. Zverev, however, also committed 8 double faults in the match to 1 by the Spainiard. Busta won 6 games in a row in the match to 3 by the Austrian.

Thiem had reached French Open Finals in both 2018 and 2019. Zverev has reached Finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.
