New Delhi : The massive increase in the number of COVID-19 patients getting cured continues in India reaching 20,96,664 at 8 am on August 20, 2020, an increase of 58,794 during last 24 hours, exceeding the number of active cases in the country by 14,10,269. The number of active cases in the country was 6,86,395 on August 20, 2020.

A total of 4,46,881 COVID patients have been declared cured in Maharashtra, 2,96,171 in Tamilnadu, 2,26,372 in Andhra Pradesh, 1,64,150 in Karnataka, 1,40,767 in Delhi, and 1,15,227 in UP till date.  Altogether 3,26,61,252 COVID samples have been tested in the country till date including 9,18,470 on August 19, 2020, according to Union Health Ministry.

COVID-19 death toll in the country, on the other hand, has jumped to 53,866 with 977 new deaths being reported from different parts of the country during last 24 hours including 346 from Maharashtra, 126 from Karnataka, 86 from Andhra Pradesh, 53 from UP, 53 from West Bengal, 23 from Punjab, 17 from Gujarat, and 9 from Delhi.

The COVID-19 death toll break-up in India on August 20, 2020, is : Maharashtra (21,033), Tamilnadu (6,123), Delhi (4,235), Karnataka (4,327), Gujarat (2,837), Andhra Pradesh (2,906), Uttar Pradesh (2,638), West Bengal (2,581), Madhya Pradesh (1,159), Rajasthan (910),  Punjab (921), Telengana (729), J&K (572), Haryana (567), Bihar (487), Odisha (372), Jharkhand (277), Assam (213), Uttarakhand (178), Kerala (182),  Chhattisgarh (161), Puducherry (129), Goa (124), Tripura (65), Chandigarh (31),  Andaman & Nicobar (30), Himachal Pradesh (19), Manipur (18), Ladakh (18), Nagaland (8), Meghalaya (6), Arunachal Pradesh (5), Sikkim (3), and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu( 2).

As far Bihar figure goes, according to State Health Department, the COVID death toll was 568 in the state on August 19, 2020.
