Chas (Jharkhand) : With a view to making a difference in the lives of the young generation by “redefining thinking and reaffirming creative educational perspectives” , DPS Chas in Bokaro District on August 4, 2020, organised a webinar on the theme “Master the Art of Handwriting” which was addressed by reputed educationist cum handwriting expert Dr Sreeson Gopinath, Founder of Centre of Educational Initiative and Research Trust (CEIR), and Director of Trivandrum based Veda Education.
More than 1,800 participants including students, parents, teachers and School Heads attended the third webinar and took home creative and practical learning experiences from the exclusive interaction with nationally acclaimed handwriting expert Dr Gopinath.
Dr Gopinath, the handwriting expert, shared the story behind his foray into this field. He gave tips to improve children’s writing and how to achieve neat and more legible handwriting. He shared tips on posture, spacing between the letters and letter formation. He provided an excellent insight into the teaching of handwriting including progression from letter formation to cursive writing, holding a pencil or pen correctly. He said Good and Bad Handwriting is an existing myth, There is only Trained or Untrained Handwriting.
Dr Gopinath said, “Handwriting is a spiritual designing even though it appears by means of a material instrument.” In modern scenario where technology is abstaining a child from handwritten documents how can a teacher encourage a child towards handwriting coordinating between a good handwriting and speed. He humorously answered the question ‘Geniuses don’t have a good handwriting because their brain work faster than their hands’ breaking the thought process of the students who find connection in matching their handwriting with eminent people like doctors. The programme also threw light on the job opportunities available as a good handwriting expert.
It may be mentioned here mentioning that Dr Sreeson Sreeson Gopinath and his team have conducted hundreds of free handwriting workshops for more than 7,000 teachers across India and also launched a handwriting lab programme which is scientific in nature and easy to implement for schools. At present more than 300 schools in India are associated with the handwriting lab.
Dr. Hemlata S Mohan, Chief Mentor, DPS Chas, in her message from Delhi, said, “The primary purpose of handwriting is communication especially in educational environment to convey one’s knowledge. Handwriting needs to be explicitly taught to all children as technology has a strong impact on children’s handwriting ability.” This session is the need of the hour which signifies the importance of writing in a student’s overall development, she said.
