Patna : England defeated West Indies (WI) by 269 runs on Day 5 in the third test at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, UK, to win the three-match test series 2-1. WI had won the first test. England fast bowler Stuart Broad was declared Player of the Match for bagging ten wickets in the match – six in first and four in 2nd innings.
Broad and WI player Rostos Chase were declared Player of the Series. Stuart Broad completed 500 wickets in test cricket in this test. Broad was not selected for the first test but took 16 wickets in the next two tests. Broad had also scored 62 in 45 balls hitting 9 fours and a six in England’s first innings of 369.
Set a target of 399 runs to win the third test, WI were all out for a paltry 129 with fast bowler Chris Woakes taking 5/50 and Stuart Broad taking 4/36. Shai Hope was the top scorer for the WI with 31.
England opener Rory Burns scored 57 in first innings and 90 runs in second innings. England had declared their 2nd innings at 226/2. WI, who had scored 197 in first innings, were all out for just 129 in 37.1 overs in their second innings.
