Motihari :  All the  rivers including Gandak, Burhi Gandak, Bagmati, and Lalbakeya  are in spate  and flowing above danger mark due to torrential rain  during  last three days  in the foothills of Nepal  and catchment  area of  East Champaran district in North Bihar. Swirling
waters of hilly rivers like Tilawe, Sarisawa, Bangari, Dudhaura, have also entered the low lying areas  in  the  bordering  villages in
Patahi, Dhaka, Chiraiya, Fenehara, and Madhuban  blocks.

Road traffic has been disrupted between East Champaran and Sheohar district  as  4 feet deep flood water is flowing on road near Dewapur  in a stretch of  200 metres.

The  turbulent  Burhi Gandak is surging upward at several points across Sugauli, Ramgarhwa, Banjariya, and Motihari blocks. The ring bund  of Burhi Gandak  has been breached at Dhawahi  in Sugauli block and gushing waters of  the river inundated  17 villages under  Sugauli block  on July 22, 2020. The flood waters have  entered Sugauli police station  and Sugauli market areas .
Burhi Gandak  has also inundated 14 villages  under Banjariya block  near Motihari . The offices of CO and BDO of Banjariya  is under knee deep water  and  these offices have been shifted  to an old building  near Motihari  by the administration.

Relief and rescue  operation has been started in these areas  by the district administration  and community kitchen  would become  functional very soon, said Anil Kumar, ADM (Disaster Management).  East Champaran DM Shirshat Kapil Ashok said  the teams  of NDRF and SDRF  and HomeGuard teams  have been deployed  in this area.  The old, Children, and  pregnant women are  being shifted to safer places by motorboats.

The Gandak  (Narayani)  river is rising fast in  Paharpur, Areraj, Sangrampur,  and Kesariya  blocks  and  around
34 villages inside embankments have been inundated.  The flood water  has entered the houses and  the  villagers are taking
shelter at safer places  like schools  and  on NH28  near Dumariya Ghat bridge  with their cattle .
