Patna : Congress Party was on June 25, 2020, forced to change its candidate for the biennial polls to Bihar legislative council at last moment as the name of its nominee Tariq Anwar, 69, a former Union Minister, did not figure in the voters’ list in Bihar. Samir Kumar Singh, one of working President of BPCC, has replaced Tariq Anwar  as the Congress nominee for the Council poll. Singh filed his nomination papers on June 25.

Samir Kumar Singh is son of former Bihar Minister from Munger District Rajendra Prasad Singh. The Council poll is scheduled for July 6, 2020. Tariq was first elected to Lok Sabha from Katihar in 1980. He is also a former Rajya Sabha Member.

The BJP has nominated Sanjay Mayukh, a sitting Member, and former Minister Samrat Chaudhay for the Council polls. The RJD has fielded Mohd Farooq, Sunil Kumar Singh, and Prof Rambali Singh as its nominee for the poll. The JD(U) has fielded Prof Ghulam Gaus, Kumud Verma, and Bhishma Sahni for the polls.
