Ara : A speeding truck crushed to death a married woman riding pilion on a bike near village Jamalpur on Ara-Chhapra main road under Koelwar police station in Bhojpur district on May 22, 2020, evening, and escaped from the spot. The youth driving the motorcycle escaped unhurt.
The deceased was identified as Lalti Devi, wife of Ram Ashish Das of village Tarwa under Naubatpur police station in Patna district. As the news spread, the villagers got agitated and blocked the Ara-Chhapara four lanes the whole night with the body of the deceased near Jamalpur village paralysing the movement of vehicles. They burnt tyres on road and raised slogans against the district administration. They were demanding the presence of the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Circle Officer (CO) on the spot and compensation to the next of kinf of the deceased. The blockade was lifted in the wee hour on May 23, 2020, after much persuasion and positive response from the officials. Later, police brought the body to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
SHO, Koelwar police station, said that Lalti Devi, wife of Ram Ashish Das of village Tarawa under Naubatpur police station in Patna district, had come to her parents at Kolhapur village under Koelwar police station in Bhojpur district a few days ago. She was coming to Ara along with a youth in her neighbourhood on a motorcycle to buy medicine in the evening on May 22, 2020. As they reached near Jamalpur village on Ara-Chhapra four lanes, the youth lost control and the motorcycle skid and overturned on road as sand was scattered on road. Meanwhile, a speeding truck coming from behind ran over the woman crushing her to death on the spot.
