Motihari : Police on May 21, 2020, claimed to have cracked the case of loot of Rs 5.77 lakh at gun point from Mehasi Branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in East Champaran on May 20,2020, by arresting eight members of an inter-district gang and recovering from their possession Rs 3.28 lakh cash which they had looted from the Bank. Police cracked the case within 12 hours of incident.
East Champaran SP Navin Chandra Jha on May 21 said that a team of police officers of different police stations headed by Shailendra Kumar, SDPO, Chakiya, probed into the incident and conducted raids at several places. The police team, on a tip off, conducted raids at Jasauli, Thatiya, Motipur, and Baruraj villages in Muzaffarpur district and Chakiya in East Champaran district and arrested 8 criminals and recovered Rs 3.28 lakh from their possessions besides recovering a cash bag of the Bank from a criminal. That apart, police also seized three pistols , one live cartridges, and five cellphones during the raids.
The arrested criminals have been identified as Babul Kumar, Ratnesh Pandey, Arbind Kumar, Prabhat Kumar, and Anil Kumar of Kathaya, Pintu Pandey of Baruraj and Manik Kumar of Motipur in Muzaffarpur district, and Rahul Kumar of Chakiya. All these
criminals were produced before the court and were remanded to Motihari Central Jail.
SDPO, Chakiya, Shailendra Kumar, said that the arrested dacoits had confessed their involvement in bank loot and also confessed that they had looted cash from three Customer Service Point (CSP) agents at Chakiya, Pipra, and Mehasi in East Champaran District last week.
