Motihari : East  Champaran DM Shirshat Kapil Ashok on May 7, 2020,  served show cause notice  to  Civil Surgeon  Dr Rizawan Ahmad
holding him responsible for the further  spread of Coronavirus  (COVID-19) in the district  due to violation of  health department orders  and gross negligence  of Doctors, Hospital Manager, and District Programme Officer, Motihari Sadar hospital.

The DM has Civil Surgeon Dr Ahmad to reply to the show cause within 24 hours failing which stern action would be initiated  against him. The DM has warned disciplinary action against him and other  hospital staff concerned.

The DM said that four suspected Coronavirus patients  of Shikarganj and Pakaridayal had come to Motihari Sadar Hospital on April 30 and the doctor on duty had taken their swab samples  but they were allowed to return to their homes instead of putting them at the quarantine centre at Motihari. Latter on, these four persons  tested positive to Coronavirus. Due to  gross violation of lockdown restrictions and medical guidelines relating to handling of the disease by the medical and para-medical staff, 60  persons who had come into contact with these four positive patients had to be quarantined  by the administration.

DM Ashok  has taken all measures to check spread of Coronavirus in this border district and declared two containment zones and buffer zones in 7 km areas in Shikarganj and Pakaridayal localities in the  proximity of coronavirus patients. According to an official report, nine  persons have so far tested positive to Coronavirus in East Champaran District while one patient has died due to it in the district.
