New Delhi : Coronavirus (COVID-19) death toll surged to 1,568 in India at 8 am on May 5, 2020, with 179 new deaths being reported since the last update issued by Union H&FW Ministry on May 4, 2020, evening, an alarming development even as the number of patients cured/discharged jumped to 12,726 in the country. West Bengal alone reported 98 new deaths since May 4 evening.
The number of COVID-19 active cases stands at 32,138 in India. The number of confirmed cases stands at 46,433 including 14,541 in Maharashtra, 5,804 in Gujarat, 4,898 in Delhi, 3,550 in Tamilnadu, 3,061 in Rajasthan, 2,942 in MP, 2,746 in UP, 1,650 in Andhra Pradesh, and 1,259 in West Bengal.
The Coronavirus death toll break up is : Maharashtra ( 583), Gujarat 9319), Madhya Pradesh (165), West Bengal (133), Rajasthan (77), Delhi (64), UP ( 50), Andhra Pradesh (36), Tamilnadu (31), Telangana (29), Karnataka (27), Punjab (23), J&K 98), Haryana (6), Bihar (4), Kerala (4), Jharkhand (3), Assam (1), Meghalaya (1), Himachal Pradesh (1), Odisha (1), Chandigarh (1), and Uttarakhand (1).
Maharashtra reported 35 new deaths since May 4 evening while Gujarat reported 29 new deaths. Rajasthan reported six new deaths since May 4 evening while UP reported 5 new deaths . Punjab reported 2 new deaths while Chandigarh, Haryana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu reported one new deaths each.
