Ara : Police allegedly thrashed and abused an advocate of Ara Civil Court after he objected to realisation of illegal money from a vegetable vendor at Sheetal Tola under Nawada police station, Ara, in Bhojpur District, on May 2, 2020, evening.

Bijay Chandra Pathak, advocate, Ara Civil Court,  in a communication to Bhojpur SP,  and the President and Secretary, Ara Bar Association, on May 3, 2020, said that he was standing at the gate of his house at Sheetal Tola near TB Hospital under Nawada police station in the evening on May 2 when he saw two police personnel realising money from a vegetable vendor. When they saw him standing at the gate of his, the police personnel used expletives and said that no one could come out of the house during lockdown and forced him to go inside. When the advocate argued that he was following lockdown and was at the gate of his house, both the police personnel hit  him with their belts and also abused. Meanwhile, the residents of the area gathered there. Seeing the people in large number, both the police personnel escaped from the scene.

Bijay Chandra Pathak has requested the Bhojpur SP to take legal action against both the police personnel after investigation. He also requested the President and the Secretary, Ara Bar Association, to send a copy of his application to the Bhojpur SP for necessary legal action. Bijay Chandra Pathak is a senior advocate of Ara Civil Court.  His son and a married daughter are also practicingat Ara Civil Court.

In 1998, a Sub-Inspector had inadvertently arrested Bijay Chandra Pathak against a warrant issued in the name of another person. He was released only after 24 hours from the police custody. After that Bijay Chandra Pathak filed a case against the Sub-Inspector (SI) and the SI had to spend 22 days in jail. Later, on the request of the District Judge, the advocate forgave him  and SI could come out of the jail.
