Patna : The Coronavirus (COVID-19) death toll surged to 9,136 including 971 new deaths in Italy on March 28, 2020, while in Spain it reached 4,858 including 769 new deaths. Italy had reported 86,498 COVID-19 confirmed cases including 5,959 new cases till March 28 while Spain reported 64,050 confirmed cases including 7,871 new cases, according to WHO Situation Report-68. France had reported 1,992 deaths including 297 new deaths till March 28.

France has reported 32,542 COVID-19 confirmed cases so far. UK has reported 14,557 confirmed cases including 759 deaths while USA has reported 85,228 confirmed cases including 1,243 deaths. Iran has reported 32,332 confirmed cases including 2,378 deaths.

Germany has reported 48,582 active cases including 325 deaths. Germany has reported 72 new deaths while USA has reported 252 new deaths. Brazil accounts for 2,915 confirmed cases including 77 deaths. It has reported 20 new deaths.

Netherlands has reported 8,603 confirmed cases including 546 deaths while Switzerland has reported 12,104 confirmed cases including 197 deaths. Sweden has reported 3,046 active cases including 92 deaths. Austria has reported 7,697 COVID-19 cases including 68 deaths. Belgium accounts for 7,284 confirmed cases including 289 deaths.

China has reported 82,230 confirmed cases including 152 new cases. The Coronavirus death toll in China, from where the diseases originated, is 3,301 including only 3 new deaths. The situation has improved considerably in China. Republic of Korea has reported 9,478 confirmed cases including 144 deaths. It has reported only 5 new deaths. Japan has reported 1,499 active cases including 49 deaths. Japan has reported only 3 new deaths.

Globally, 5,71,678 COVID-19 confirmed cases were reported till March 28, 2020, while the death toll is 26,494 including 3,159 new deaths.  The WHO Director General on March 27, 2020, referred to chronic global shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and termed it as one of the most urgent threat to our collective ability to save lives. Till date, WHO has shipped nearly 2 million individual items of PPE to 74 countries and is preparing to send a similar number to further 60 countries.
