Patna : Seven-time champion & World No 2 Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, and World No 35 Milos Raonic, 29, Canada, stormed into the quarter-finals (QFs) of Australian Open (AO) 2020 winning their respective 4th round matches in straight sets at Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on January 26, 2020.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic beat World No 14 Diego Schwartzman, 27, Argentina, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in 4th round at Rod Laver Arena. Second seed Djokovic won 4 break points in the match to 1 by the Argentine. He fired 8 Aces in the match to 1 by Schwartzman. Djokovic also won 6 games in a row in the match to 2 by Schwartzman, the 14th seed. The Serbian won 62 service points to 50 by Schwartzman. Djokovic’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 75 % & 70 %) was much higher than that of Schwartzman ( 61 % & 56 %). Djokovic now leads Schwartzman 4-0 Head to Head.
Milos Raonic, the 32nd seed, beat 2018 AO finalist & World No 39 Marin Cilic, 31, Croatia, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 in 2 hr 19 minutes in 3rd round at Margaret Court Arena winning 3 break points besides winning 5 games in a row in the match. Raonic thus reached the QFs of AO for the 5th time.
Raonic, the 2016 AO semi-finalist and 2016 Wimbledon finalist, hammered 35 Aces in the match to 5 by Cilic, who had defeated World No 9 Roberto Bautista Agut, Spain, in five sets in 3rd round. The Canadian, who had stunned World No 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 21, Greece, in straight sets in 3rd round, won 69 service points to 56 by the Crotian, the 2014 US Open Champion and 2017 Wimbledon finalist.
Raonic will face Djokovic in QFs. Djkovic leads Raonic 9-9 Head to Head.
