Carolina, Rituparna enter SFs of Syed Modi International Badminton Championships

Patna : Reigning Olympic Champion Carolina Marin, 26, Spain, World No 165 Rituparna Das, 23, India, World No 17 Kim Ga Eun, 21, South Korea, and World No 40 Phittayaporn Chaiwan, 18, Thailand, entered the semi-finals of Ecogreen Syed Modi International Badminton Championships, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 event, at Lucknow, UP, India, on November 29, 2019.

World No 18 and 4th seed Carolina, also a three-time former World Champion, beat Evgeniya Koestskaya, 24, Russia, in straight games 21-13, 21-16 in 37 minutes in quarter-finals. Carolina won 42 rallies in the match to 29 by Evgeniya. She won 5 consecutive points to 4 by the Russian.Carolina now leads Evgeniya 2-0 Head to Head.

Rituparna edged past compatriot and World No 200 Shruti Mundada, 25, in three-games 24-26, 21-10, 21-19 in 53 minutes in quarter-finals rallying back after losing the first game. Rituparna won 66 rallies in the match to 55 by Shruti. She won 11 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Shruti. Rituparna now leads Shruti 4-0 Head to Head.

Phittayaporn Chaiwan beat World No 23 Wang Zhi Yi, China,  in straight games 21-17, 21-12 in 40 minutes to enter the semi-finals of the tournament. The two players are now locked 1-1 Head to Head. Phittayaporn will face Rituparna Das in SFs.

Kim Ga Eun beat World No 42 Kim Hyo Min, 23, South Korea, 21-18, 21-14 in 43 minutes to enter SFs. Eun won 42 rallies in the match to 32 by Min. The two players are now locked 2-2 head to Head. Kim will face Carolina in SFs.
