Patna : New Zealand (NZ) defeated England by 14 runs in the 3rd T20I at Saxton Oval, Nelson, New Zealand, on November 5, 2019, to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. NZ all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme was declared Player of the Maqtch.

Chasing a target of 181, England could score only 166/7 in 20 overs even as opener David Malan scored 55 in 34 balls hitting 8 fours and a six and James Vince scoring 49 in 39 balls with 4 fours and a six. England were cruising along well and had reached 139/2 but captain Eoin Morgan fell to spinner Mitchell Santner for 18 making it 139/3 in 15 overs triggering a collapse.

England opener Tom Banton fell to Blair Tickner for 18 while Malan fell to spinner Ish Sodhi making it 90/2 in 10.2 overs. James Vince also fell to Tickner, who finished with 2/25 in 4 overs. Sam Billings (wk) was run out for 1 while Sam Curran fell to fast bowler Lockie Ferguson for 2. Lewis Gregory also fell to Ferguson for a duck making it 148/6.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, NZ had scored 180/7 in 20 overs all-rounder Colin de Grandomme scoring 55 in 35 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes and opener Martin Guptil scoring 33 in 17 balls with 7 fours. Ross Taylor fell to Shaquib Mahmood for 27 in 24 balls with 2 fours and a six. James Neesham fell to Sam Curran for 20 in 15 balls with 2 fours and a six. Mitchell Santner was run out for 15 with 2 fours. Opener Colin Munro fell to Tom Curran for 6 while Guptil fell to Matrick Brown.

England had won the 1st T20I while NZ had won the second T20I.
