Patna : The RJD, the main opposition party in Bihar, won two of the five seats the by-polls to which were held on October 21, 2019. The JD(U), All India Majlis -e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, and Independent won one seat each. The results of the by-polls are a setback to the NDA while it is a positive development for the RJD.

All India Majlis -e-Ittehadul Muslimeen candidate Qamrul Hoda won the Kishanganj Assembly seat defeating BJP nominee Sweety Singh by 10,204 votes in the by-poll. Hoda secured 70,469 votes while Sweety Singh secured 60, 265 votes. All India Majlis -e-Ittehadul Muslimeen is entering Bihar Assembly for the first time.

The RJD won the Simri Bhakhtiarpur in Saharsa District and Belhar Seat in Banka District. RJD nominees Zafar Alam won the Simri Bhakhtiarpur seat while party nominee Ramdeo Yadav won the Belhar seat.

The JD(U) nominee Laxmikant Mandal won the Nathnagar seat in Bhagalpur District. Independent Karnjeet Singh alias Vyas Singh won the Daraundha seat in Siwan District by a big margin.
