Patna : World No 13 Matteo Berrittini, 23, Italy, upset World No 5 Dominic Thiem, 26, Austria, to enter the semi-finals of Rolex Shanghai Masters at Shanghai, China, on October 11, 2019. He will face World No 6 Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, in the semi-finals on October 12, 2019. Zverev defeated 2nd seed Roger Federer, 38, Switzerland, in the QFs on October 11.

Berrettini, the 11th seed, beat 4th seed Dominic Thiem 7-6, 6-4 in quarter-finals in 1hr 40 minutes winning a break point besides winning 3 games in a row in the match. Bothe players fired 6 Aces each in the match. The Italian won 55 service points to 49 by the Austrian.

In the second semi-finals, 3rd seed Daniil Medvedev, 23, Russia, will face 6th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 21, Greece, who stunned Top seed Novak Djokovic, Serbia, in the QFs on October 11.
