Motihari : An unidentified Mahout of an elephant was crushed to death on September 3, 2019, by a speeding SUV which turned turtle near Writitola under Kotawa police station on NH28 Lucknow-Muzaffarpur road under Kotawa police station in East Champaran district in which 6 occupants of vehicle sustained serious injuries.
According to the locals, an elephant was going with its Mahout towards Gopalganj on NH 28. But, due to excessive heat the elephant suddenly went berserk and attempted to kill its mahout using its drunk.
Sensing trouble, the Mahout jumped down backward from the elephant and ran towards second lane of NH but was dashed by a speeding SUV. He died on the spot. The elephant went mad and started running on road and then entered an agriculture field. Only few passersby witnessed it. They informed the police. The elephant was tethered after an hour with the help of some elephant experts and police.
All the injured persons were admitted to a local hospital. Police has lodged a case in this connection with the incident with Kotawa police station.
