Djokovic, Federer, Dimitrov enter 3rd round of US Open

Patna : Top seed and World No 1 Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, and World No 3 Roger Federer, 38, Switzerland, have entered the 3rd round of US Open at New York City, New York, USA.

Djokovic, chasing a 17th Grand Slam title, beat World No 56 Juan Ignacio Londero, 26, Argentina, in straight sets 6-4, 7-6, 6-1 in 2nd round on August 29, 2019, early morning. Djokovic won 9 break points in the match to  5 by Londero. He also won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by the Argentine. The Serbian fired 7 Aces in the match to 6 by Londero. Djokovic, however, also committed 8 double faults in the match to 5 by Londero. Both the players won 49 service points each in the match.

Federer, the 3rd seed,  beat World No 99 Damir Dzumhur,  27, Bosnia & Harzegovina, in four-sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 in 2nd round on August 28, 2019, late night, coming from behind. Federer fired 16 Aces in the match to 3 by Dzumhur. Federer, the winner of 20 Grand Slam titles, won 5 break points in the match to 2 by Dzumhur. He won 5 games in a row in the match to 4 by Dzumhur, who committed 8 double faults. Federer committed 4 double faults. Federer had also lost the first set in his 1st round match against Sumit Nagal, India.

World No 78 Grigor Dimitrov, 28, Bulgaria, also entered the 3rd round after his 2nd round opponent Borna Coric, 22, Croatia, the World No 12, retired before the match due to injury.

World No 118 Dominik Koepfer, 25, Germany, upset World No 42 Reilly Opelka, 21, USA, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 in 2nd round. Opelka though fired 24 Aces in the match to 8 by Koepfer. But, Koepfer, a qualifier, won 3 break points in the match to 1 by Opelka. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match.
