Patna: Bihar government has assured Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) to fulfil its commitment to pay compensation to 703 women who fell victim to the uterus removal scam. The commission in its April,2016 order had asked the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh to each for women between 20 and 40 years and Rs 1.5 lakh each to those above 40 years.
In its communication to the commission, health department said the state government had filed FIRs with different police stations against 33 doctors and 17 private hospitals as they were found responsible for wrongful removal of uterus to corner the National rural health mission insurance scheme money. The state government has requested the Medical Council of India (MCI) to cancel the registration of accused doctors and derecognise registration of the hospitals concerned.
The private hospitals and doctors involved in the multi-hundred crore scam across the state had also claimed to have removed uterus of women,which were later on found false as they were identified as male during investigations of the scam.
