Albot upsets Cilic in Cincinati Masters Isner enters 2nd round

Patna : World No 39 Radu Albot, 29, Moldova, upset World No 18 and 2014 US Open Champion Marin Cilic, 30, Croatia, in the first round of Cincinati Open, USA, an ATP Masters 1,000 Hard ourts tournament, also known as Wester & Southern Open, on August 12, 2019. But, World No 16 John Isner, 34, USA, advanced to second round.

Albot beat Cilic, the 14th seed, in straight sets 6-4, 7-4 in 1 hr 54 minutes to enter the second round. Cilic though fired 9 Aces in the match to 6 by Albot, who won a break point. Albot also won 3 games in a row in the match. He won 57 service points to 50 by the Croatian, who has won 18 career ATP singles title.

Isner , the 13th seed,  edged past World No 28 Dusan Lajovic, 29, Serbia, in a three-set thriller 7-6, 1-6, 7-5 to enter the second round. Isner hammered 27 Aces in the match to 10 by Lajovic, who had reached final of Monte- Carlo Masters 1,000 tournament in April 2019. Isner won 1 break point while the Serbian won 2 break points in the match. Lajovic won 76 service points to 69 by the American, who had reached Wimbledon SFs and US Open QFs in 2018. Isner has won 15 career titles.

World No 59 Adrian Mannarino, 31, France, upset Cristian Garin, 23, Chile, 6-4, 6-1 to enter the 2nd round. Mannarino won 4 break points in the match to 1 by Garin. He won 36 service points to 24 by Garin.
