World No 1 Barty, World No 8 Stephens, World 9 Sabalenka crash out of Rogers Cup

Patna : Top seed and World No 1 Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, and  former US Open Champion Sloane Stephens, 26, USA,  , were knocked out of the Rogers Cup, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, by comparatively lesser known players in the second round on August 7, 2019.by

World No 29 Sofia Kenin, 20, USA, stunned Ashleigh Barty, the reigning French Open Champion, in tough three-set contest 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. Kenin won 6 break points in the match to 4 by Barty. The American also won 4 games in a row to 3 by the World No 1. Kenin won 63 service points in the match to 49 by the Australia. Barty though fired 8 Aces in the match to 4 by Kenin.

World No 91 Marie Bouzkova, 21, Czech Republic, stunned World No 8 Sloane Stephens in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 in the second round. Bouzkova won 5 break points to 2 by Stephens to enter the 3rd round. Bouzkova won 4 games in a row in the match to 2 by the American. She also 45 service points to 33 by Stephens. Bouzkova’s winning percentage both on her first and second ( 69 % & 50 %) was much higher than that of Stephens ( 57 % & 40 %). It was Bouzkova’s first win against a Top 10 player.

World No 44 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 28, Russia, stunned World No 9 Aryna Sabalenka, 21, Belarus, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the first round on August 7. Pavlyuchenkova’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve ( 64% & 72 %) was better than of Sabalenka ( 63 % & 64%). The Russian won 4 break points to 3 by Sabalenka. Both the players fired 4 Aces each in the match.
