Patna : World No 15 John Isner, USA, and World No 20 Milos Raonic, Canada, were knocked out of City Open, Washington, USA, an ATP 500 points tournament, suffering unexpected defeat in the Round of 16 on August 2, 2019, early morning. But, World No 6 and top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, Greece, World No 10 Daniil Medvedev, Russia, World No 17 Marin Cilic, Croatia, and World No 52 Nick Kyrgios, Australia, advanced to the quarter-finals of the hardcourt tournament.

World No 30 and 10th seed Benoit Paire, France, upset 5th seed Isner  7-6, 6-3 in the Round of 16 to reach the QFs of the event. Isner fired 14 Aces in the match to 12 by Paire. paire also a break point besides winning 3 games in a row. Paire won 52 service points to 45 by the American.

World No 122 Peter Gojowczyk, Germany, stunned Raonic 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 16 to enter the QFs. Gojowczyk won 2 break points to none  by Raonic. The German also won 3 games in a row in the match. Raonic fired 7 Aces in the match to 6 by the German.

Tsitsipas beat World No 46 Jordon Thompson, Australia, 6-3, 7-6 in the Round of 16. Tsitsipas won a break point besides winning 3 games in a row in the match. Tsitsipas won 54 service points to 46 by the Australian. He will face Benoit Paire in the QFs on August 3, 2019.

Third seed Medvedev beat 16th seed Frances Tiafoe, USA, 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the QFs. Medvedev fired 11 Aces in the match to 2 by the America. The Russian won 4 break points to 1 by Toafoe, the World No 40. Medvedev will face Marin Cilic in the QFs. Sixth seed Cilic defeated  World No 22 and 9th seed Felix Auger Aliassime, Canada, 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 16. Cilic won 4 break points in the match to 1 by Aliassime. The Canadian fired 10 Aces in the match to 4 by Cilic.

Kyrgios beat World No 77 Yoshihito Nishioka, Japan, 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the QFs. Kyrgios hammered 15 Aces in the match to none by Nishioka. He also won 4 break points in the match to 1 by Nishioka. Kyrgios will face qualifier and World No 137 Norbert Gombos, 28, Slovakia,  in the QFs. Gombos defeated World No 61 Miomir Kecmanovic, 19, Serbia, in the Round of 16.
