Australia score 284 in 1st innings against England in 1st Ashes test, Smith hits ton

Patna : Electing to bat after winning the toss, Australia were all out for 284 in 80.4 overs against England on Day 1 of the first Ashes test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK, on August 1, 2019, night, with Steven Smith scoring 144 in 219 balls hitting 16 fours and 2 sixes while fast bowler Peter Siddle scored 44 in 85 balls with 4 fours. It was Smith’s 24th test century including 9 in Ashes tests.

Australia had lost their 8th wicket at 122 but then Smith and Siddle added 88 runs for the 9th wicket. Smith also added 74 runs with spinner Nathon Lyon for the 10th wicket.Lyon remained unbeaten on 12. England were 10/0 at stumps.
