Patna : World No 14 Michelle Li, 27, Canada, stunned World No 1 and top seed Tai Tzu Ying, 25, Chinese Taipei, in the quarter-finals on July 26, 2019, to reach the semi-finals of Daihatsu Yonex Japan Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 badminton tournament, at Tokyo, Japan.

Li, the 2014 Commonwealth Games Champion, beat Tai Tzu in a three-game thriller 21-15, 15-21, 22-20 in 60 minutes in the quarter-finals at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo. Li won 58 rallies in the match to 56 by Tai Tzu. She won 6 consecutive points to 4 by Tai Tzu. But, Tai Tzu still leads Li 6-2 Head to Head.
