Bagaha : West Champaran district administration has sounded an alert in all 16 blocks located on the banks of rivers Gandak, Bhapsa, Masan, Pandai, Harabora, Sikarahana , and Oriana following heavy rains in their catchment area and fresh release of 2.78 lakh cusec water into Valmikinagar Gandak barrage from Nepal. The situation in the district took an alarming turn on July 13, 2019.
The district administration has alerted local people about the possible flood and erosion threat and directed block level officials to be ready to tackle any situation apprehending further rise in water level of Gandak, Masan, Harabora, Pandai, Sikarahna and Oriana. The block officials have been asked to ask villagers residing in low lying areas to move to safer places. Police surveillance on Piparasi -Pipara embankment and Champaran bund has been intensified after heavy rains . Communication on Narakatiaganj -Mainatand via Sikta road has been disrupted.
One to two feet deep rain water is flowing over the tracks at Narakatiaganj Junction platform No. 2 and 3 affecting in signal operation, said Lalbabu Raut, Station Superintendent Narakatiavanj junction. Gaurishankar Mukhiya of Banakawa Karamahiya panchayat says road communication of 22 villages in Gobarahiya Don and Banakatawa panchayats from Ramnagar block headquarters under Bagaha Sub-Division remains snapped for last three days. Even telecommunation services are not available.
The water of Pandai river entered Nandnagar (Sheonagar) locality and flood affected families have taken shelter at Krishi Bazaar building. SDM, Narakatiaganj, Chandan Chauhan visited many flood affected areas. The water of Gandak has entered Ward No. 34 and 35 of Nagar Parishad, Bagah. One to two feet rain water has accumulated at Bagaha SP Office, Gandak Colony Bagaha, Pathakauli Middle School and low lying areas under Nagar Parishad, Bagaha. Rain water overtopped NH 727 near village Sirauna under Chautarawa police station and communication between Lauria to Bagaha has been affected. Chhatiyaghat diversion near village Patilar also caved in. Electric supply to four blocks trans Gandak : Piparasi, Madhubani, Bhitaha, and Thakaraha have been discontinued due to heavy downpour.
